Our Story

 It is true that all expatriate Bangladeshis living in the USA are deeply rooted to Bangladeshi culture, history and heritage, tradition and norms. Though we physically left our homeland, we miss and love all these values. With this in mind, in the early eighties a few enthusiastic Bangladeshis in greater Kansas city area formed an association called “Bangladesh Association for Greater Kansas City (BAGKC)” in order to bring and unite all the Bangladeshis under one umbrella. It is a non-political, non-profitable, non-religious and socio-cultural organization.

A lot of events were arranged throughout the years since; including cultural events with local talents and sometimes with outside professional singing and dance groups, including sport events, games, art and essay writing contests for the children, and picnics among others.

At the onset, we had a very few Bangladeshi families in our community. Our membership was small then. However, with time it expanded, and now it is close to over hundred paid members. We are expanding the membership to include all families including student/single Bangladeshis living in greater Kansas City area. We are assimilating our new generation with our own culture, tradition, social and religious values so that they themselves preserve and practice these in their daily life.

Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you. 

Classes of Membership

  1. GENERAL MEMBER: Shall include all registered members. Family $35, Single $20
  2. STUDENT MEMBER: Shall include all students enrolled in the State of Kansas and Missouri. $10
  3. PERMANENT MEMBER: Shall include members who have donated at least USD 300 to the association. Permanent members will be members for life and shall not be required to pay yearly membership dues. 
  4. HONORARY MEMBER: Shall include all others designated such by the executive committee. Honorary members cannot vote or run for office.
